I now have DVD's available of the following lessons. These are homemade DVD's made from the original homemade VHS tapes. There's no fancy packaging, just 60+ minutes of pure lessons. Check out the following clips and if you like what you see, consider ordering a DVD or two.
"Flatpicking Guitar- Lead" covers mechanics of picking (left hand, right hand, coordination, notes, and theory), building your own solo (using "How Mountain Girls Can Love", sketching out the melody, building upon the sketch, using the key, maintaining the feel of the song), improvisation ("Red haired boy", chord positions, chord snippets, exploring), crosspicking ("Bury Me Beneath The Willow", developing from Carter-style, picking patterns- DUDU, DDUD, DDDU, forward rolls, backward rolls, keeping the melody up), "Floating" technique, and developing dexterity. 1.5 hrs on VHS tape.
"Flatpicking Guitar- Rhythm" covers basic bluegrass "boom-chick" rhythm ("Wings of an Angel"), how the "boom-chick" fits in with the other instruments, to support or to supplement?, other strums such as "boom-chicka" and full strums, getting loose and learning to react, bass runs and how to make them up, substitute chords, dynamics, percussion, using a metronome, developing other rhythms and using them in bluegrass, swing chords, swing rhythms, left hand/right hand duties, coordination, and paying attention. 1.5 hours on VHS.
"Gospel Bluegrass Guitar" (IN PROGRESS- NOT DONE YET) Arranging hymns for flatpicking guitar. Basic approach using strums and crosspicking to fill out melody w/out losing melody ("Blessed Assurance"), improvisation and more complex development ("What a Friend We Have in Jesus"), an "old-time" strummy approach using a lot of drones and strums ("Brethren We Have Come To Worship"), and using the key effectively instead of playing the same thing in both ("Amazing Grace" in D, G, and E). 40 minutes.
