SOLD!!!! Fender Jimmie Vaughan Stratocaster SOLD!!!

I've been fooling with electric off and on over the years, using a Squire Strat (tm) that I bought new in 1988. It was a good guitar, but I eventually decided to upgrade. I've always been a big fan of Jimmie Vaughan's work with The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and this signature model with its V neck and Tex-Mex pickups was my first choice. Finally found this used one, a first year model, too, and bought it. The pickguard it came with was not stock and I couldn't stand it, so I took it off and sprayed the back black.

Here's a close-up of the girl. I'm not sure if this is an original or if the previous owner added her. Jimmie's
Strat has a different girl, but this one's okay... <g>

Closeups of the headstock:

Here's a closeup of the dalmation pickguard before I painted the backside of it black. Also note how I re-wired the tone and volume controls (for awhile!  Once I got my Tele, I went back to stock). I prefer to get the volume out of the way since I play close to the lead pickup, so I re-wired for a master tone, much like a Tele. Also, like a Tele, I added a .001 mf capacitor to the volume pot so that the guitar gets brighter as the volume is turned down. The 5-way switch is one of Stewart MacDonalds "Megaswitch" E-series which is wired so that the middle position runs the neck and bridge pickups. I've added a strip of metal under the bridge pickup, and all these mods give me a very Tele-like tone at time, yet I've still got the "out of phase" Strat sound. At times, I've also blocked off the tremolo, but right now I've got it operational again since I do have a Tele in house. The Jimmie's tremolo is snug up against the body, so it really doesn't go sharp, but only goes flat, thus, you can do pedal-steel licks pretty well on it.

I sold this guitar about a year after getting it because I just couldn't handle the V neck.  I love V's on acoustic, but I found out that I don't like them on electric, where I play more barre chords.  Until I got my 60's Reissue, the Jimmie was the best sounding Strat I owned, with a really fat, sassy, singing tone.
